Bourgas District is the largest in the 28 regions of Bulgaria. It is located in Southeastern Bulgaria.

It borders the Black Sea to the east , borders to the west with the districts of Sliven and Yambol, to the north - to the districts of Varna and Shumen, and to the south - to Turkey. Vegetation as a natural resource creates a specific health belt and a microclimate on the relaxation area, making it an object of country and cognitive tourism, especially the rivers Veleka and Ropotamo, nature reserves. The forests in the Sakar and Strandja mountains create favorable conditions for hunting tourism - one of the most profitable types of tourism.

More than 40% of the mass tourism in the country takes place on the territory of Bourgas region. It is visited by the majority of foreign and Bulgarian tourists.
The area includes the attractive parts of the Eastern Balkan Mountain, the northern branches of the Strandzha Mountain, the Natural Park Strandja , the Bourgas Lowland, the eastern parts of the Upper Thracian Plain and others. To the east it includes the southern Black Sea coast, which is the most attractive for tourism development.

The geographical location of the area is extremely favorable and the transport facilities to the main tourist sites in the area are fully provided by an international airport, ports, railway station, access to the roads.
The climatic conditions in the area are determined by its geographical location. Its territory combines several climatic influences, with the most pronounced transient continental climate. The influence of the Black Sea and the Mediterranean is perceivable. Malko Tarnovo has been announced a climatic resort of national importance since 1967. Extremely favorable for the climate and sea treatment are all settlements along the Black Sea coast.
The waters of the Black Sea are slightly salty, the sea water temperature allows sea baths from April to November, making the Southern Black Sea coast very attractive.
An important resource for tourism in the region are the mineral springs near Bourgas, around which have developed spa resorts - Bourgas Mineral Baths. The Balneological resort is near the village of Banevo, with a debit of 36l / sec. and 410 t. It is recommended for diseases of the locomotor system, neurological, gynecological, thrombophlebitis and other diseases. The healing mud from Atanasovsko Lake is also used.
Balneo-tourism is also developing in Pomorie. A material and technical base has been built, which includes balneal baths, resting places, swimming pools.
Near Pomorie Lake was built the first in Eastern Europe a Museum of Salt. In the southern part of the lake a healing mud has been used for sanatoriums in the city, and the northern is used for traditional salt production, preserved for over 2000 years. The lake is a protected area since 2001, an important ornithological site of national importance, a Ramsar place from 2002 - announced for its uniqueness, one of the two lagoons in the Black Sea area, turned into salt pans. Here are determined several species of the Red Book of Bulgaria, such as henna - the largest trove for the country, Tatar sprat and sea worm. The greatest value is ornithological wealth. The lake welcomes the first autumn tours of Via Pontica, and the dikes can be seen overlooking the sea pelicans and storks. Pomorie Lake is a good example of the coexistence of traditional human activities such as salt and mining and rich biodiversity.
Bourgas is surrounded by three different lakes - Atanasovsko, Vaya and Mandra. They together with Pomorie Lake form the largest complex of natural wetlands in Bulgaria with a total area of 9500 ha. The only ones here in Bulgaria and in the Black Sea basin are the traditional salt pans - those of Atanasovsko and Pomorie Lake. In the lakes there are 340 of the 400 species of birds described for the country. Because of its uniqueness, the four lakes are declared Ramsar Territories, and the wealth of bird species is considered as important ornithological sites.
The unique combination of sea, lakes, mountains and rivers, exotic vegetation and variety of plant and animal species, along with traditions and authentic culture and customs, provide a variety of opportunities for tourism development.
Extremely attractive are the beaches on the South Black Sea coast, the cliffs and the bays. The biggest bay of the Black Sea - Bourgas, as well as many small, sheltered bays along the coast - Sozopolski, Kavatsite, Sveta Paraskeva, Zigra, Stomopolu, Dyavolski and others.
The direct contact with the beautiful places, crossed by ancient roads and dotted with ruins of fortresses and monasteries, enables the development of cultural and ecotourism at a very good level in the Bourgas region.
