Two-voices singing of Nedelino is a unique manifestation of the song tradition in the Rhodopes. It exists in this part of the mountain from old ages. As the only event of two-voices singing and like Shopsko, Graovsko and Pirin singing it attracted the attention of researchers in the middle of the last century.
The first person who considers Nedelino’s two-voices singing and submits it to the scientific community in Bulgaria and abroad is the Academician Nikolay Kaufman and that had happened in 1952. He’s dealt with the topic and has selected and notated about 350 songs.
The festival was born based on the numerous reviews of the regional amateur art, the many expressions of our artists in Koprivshtitsa and Rozhen, competitions and festivals in Germany, France, UK and the USA. Amateurs from Nedelino municipality received dozens of awards from national and international events. It’s a tradition here every year to see talent, beauty and emotion on stage that touches every soul.
1100participants from various folklore regions took part in the first National Folklore Festival “Nedelino-2002” and during the third edition the number of the participants rose to 2200.
Unlike previous years in2005 was taken a significant international participation. There were over 150 participants from Republic of Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Cyprus and Macedonia.
During the Fifth National Folklore Festival for two-voices singing and folklore music there was an international participation of dancing and singing groups from Republic of Montenegro and Romania.
The popularity of the festival grows and the number of Bulgarian and international participants in 2015reached over 3000during the three festival days.
The Folklore Festival for two-voices singing and folklore songs attracts the attention of more and more young people and they study and perform the variety of Bulgarian folklore singing.
