Atanasovsko Lake is a lake situated in the boundaries of Bourgas, between the districts of Izgrev and Sarafovo and west of them. It is part of Bourgas Lake Complex and borders on the east through Atanaskovska hair, which is about one kilometer long hair with Black Sea.
The lake is coastal and offers a great diversity of the plant and animal world, some of which are protected by the Biodiversity Act and are threatened worldwide.
The Atanasovsko Lake is connected through a number of canals with the Black Sea, through which it is drained. The total area of the lake is 7208,89 ha, with about 9 km length and 4,3 km width, as well as 0,8 - 0,9 m depth.
Due to the high salinity of lake water from 20 to 27.5%, the lake is traditionally used for salting and the habitats typical of the wetland are heavily dependent on this activity as it is. The beginning of this production was in 1906.
