"Assumption" or "Saint Mary, Mother of Jesus" is an Orthodox church in the Old town of Plovdiv and a cathedral temple of the Plovdiv diocese. The temple feast is August 15, Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God.

At the place where today is the Cathedral of the Assumption, it seems that in the 9th-10th centuries there was a Christian sanctuary. During the renovation of the church in 1844, a tombstone with an unnamed Greek inscription was found under the Holy Altar, which named the distinguished Byzantine Epiphanius Aliate as "the builder of this God's temple."

For the Church of the Virgin Mary in Philippopolis mentions Nikita Honiat: resumed in 1189 by Metropolitan Constantine Pantehni, she was robbed by the crusaders of the Third Crusade, and subsequently rebuilt.
