The Balabanov House

The Balabanov House or even the house of Hadzhi Panayot Lampsha is a house museum on the territory of the architectural and historical reserve "Ancient Plovdiv", built in the beginning of XIX century between the streets "4 January", "Dr. Stoilov" and "Antranik" .

Today the house is used as a house museum, a cultural center for exhibitions, theater productions and concerts.

The Balabanov House was built in the beginning of XIX century by Hadzhi Panayot Lampsha, a Bulgarian, born in Plovdiv, rich merchant and money-lender, a member of the Kafandjiyski Shunf. According to Lyuben Karavelov, Hadzhi Panayot is one of the most famous Plovdiv traders from the middle of the XIX century.

At the beginning of the 20th century its owner was the merchant Luca Balabanov, and from his family comes the name of the house.

The Balabanov House was destroyed to the ground in the 30s of the twentieth century.
