The monument of the Soviet Army (known as Alyosha) is a granite statue of 10.5 m height, rising on the top of Bunardzhik Hill in Plovdiv.
It was erected in 1954-1957 by architects Boris Markov, Peter Tsvetkov, Nikolay Marangozov, sculptors Vasil Radoslavov, Georgi Kotsev, Ivan Topalov, Alexander Zankov and the stonecutters Sasho Spasov, Valcho Kadijski and Grigor Mihov.
A prototype of the statue is Russian soldier Alexey Ivanovich Skurlatov (1922-2013).
After 1989, several attempts were made to remove the monument, but to date they are unsuccessful.
