The museum of Vasil Levski in his native town of Karlovo has more than 80 years of history. Its origins are related to the restoration of the Apostle's birth house in 1933 and its opening as a museum in 1937. Initially, the public committee cares for her and the community center in the city. Served only by a guard who also welcomes visitors. The first keeper of the museum is Nikola Slavchev. In 1954 the house-museum "Vasil Levski" was included in the state museum network.
In 1955, a room for documentary exposition was built near it. When it turned out to be small, in 1965 another building was built and the old one was reconstructed in the cinema. From 1968 to 1992 the house-museum is a branch of the Historical Museum of History in Karlovo. Since 1993 it has been a separate museum. On July 21, 2000. he was declared a state cultural institute of national importance and the name "Vasil Levski" Museum - Karlovo. Thus it occupies its proper place as a national memorial museum dedicated to one of the most prominent Bulgarians.
