Region Plovdiv

Plovdiv District is a district in Bulgaria. It is located in the central part of southern Bulgaria, covering an area of 5972.9 km2 (5.4% of the territory of the state) and has a population of 683 027 people, according to counting data from 2011.

The region borders to the north with Lovech region, to the east - Stara Zagora region, to the southeast - the districts of Haskovo and Kardzhali, and to the south - Smolyan region. Its western border is with the Pazardzhik region and the northwest with the Sofia region. The postal codes of the settlements in the Plovdiv district are from 4000 (in the city of Plovdiv) to 4399. Its Motor Vehicle Code is PB.

Plovdiv district is crossed by many rivers, including Maritsa and its tributaries, Pyasachnik , Vacha, Stryama, Chepelarska and others. There are mineral springs in the region: in the region of Hissarya, Klisura, Asenovgrad, Banya, in the villages of Kuklen, Narechen, Krasnovo,

Rozino, Bogdan, Stoletovo, Kliment and others. There are many natural landmarks in the region - the reserves Djendema, Kormisosh, Red wall, Stara Reka, the beautiful waterfalls Sacharum and the Rainforest, caves and others.

Plovdiv district is an industrial and agricultural region with a variety of well developed  sectors of the economy. Here over one hundred types ofcrops are grown. To the south of the town, at the foot of the Rhodope Mountains around Asenovgrad, one of the most aromatic oriental tobaccos is grown, as well as the heavy, dry red wines Trakia and Mavrud, and to the north in the regions of Brezovo and Karlovo the famous white Muscat wine is produced.

In Plovdiv and its surroundings there are many cultural, archaeological and historical monuments that provide conditions for the development of cultural tourism - Old Plovdiv, Assen's fortress, Roman fortress in Hissarya, Bachkovo Monastery, Kalofer, Sopot, Karlovo and Klisura, Thracian Cult Center in the village of Starosel, the Red Church near Perushtitsa, the fortress of Anevo Kale and others. The Rhodopes are suitable for mountain, ecological, hunting and fishing tourism. The cross-forest and the numerous monasteries in the Rhodope Mountains and at the foot of the Balkan Mountains provide conditions for the development of religious tourism. Hissar, Banya and Narechen are famous balneological centers. A major factor for the development of business tourism is the International Plovdiv Fair. In Plovdiv and the region there is a well-developed tourist infrastructure that meets the requirements of modern tourism.
